Overview

Spatial Level One is an onboarding experience, tutorial, or first quest for users who have just joined Spatial. We selected the key controls, interactions, and features within Spatial and interactively embedded them in one virtual space. Previously, We didn't provide much onboarding or tutorials after signing up, so users were confused about what to do and what to expect from Spatial. Level One will provide a more intuitive first-time user experience with interactions in a single virtual space.

Background

in continuing their experience in the platform.

Previously, Spatial has provided users with only pop-up onboarding steps. The virtual experience of being in a 3D space, while familiar to those familiar with the game, can be quite foreign to those who aren't. So using the virtual space that is main environment of our experience, we needed to design a more user-friendly tutorial that would onboard the users.

Create a natural language-centric, AI-native workflow: The worlds and assets are semantically editable.

Onboarding could be in a variety of ways. It could be watching a video, reading some doc, or using a pagination.
However, we wanted to utilize the character of Spatial and let users experience the platform itself through the onboarding. So we decided to break away from the typical way of onboarding and incorporate various tutorial elements into a simple journey of exploring a single virtual space.

The longer new user onboarding is, the more likely users are to churn. So we selected the most essential experiences of Spatial and designed them to be included in a shorter onboarding time.

Users can see their achievements and collections at a glance on their profile page. This gives users a sense of accomplishment, and they can also see the date they earned the badge like a log.

After considering the tutorial elements we should include in onboarding process, I designed a step-by-step journey in a virtual space. Along the way to the goal, users will experience spatial by completing a few simple quests and learning basic controls.
